Debate Workshop 2012
English debate activity is expected to fulfill both Global Player and Local Champion strategies. The students will be able to express their ideas through the discussion. Moreover, they will learn the debate arts and practice their English skills from this activity. Apart from English speaking improvement, English debate will also provide the students a chance in joining the national and/or international English debate competition.
Realizing mentioned advantages that this activity will bring to the University, Faculty and students, the Faculty of Engineering therefore organizes the “English Debate Club” for engineering students. At present, English Debate Club member are mostly from the Global Ants Club members. However, the English Debate Club will open to all engineering students welcomely.
Accomplishments
- The society was able to organize a 10- week debate training session together with Mr. Gary Sakuma, the national high school team coach of Thailand. At least 20 students had the chance to join the trainings and gained knowledge on the basics of debate. Towards the end of the training, students had advance debate sessions and actual debate. They were then given feedback based on their overall performance.
- On October 11-16, 2012, the KMUTT Debate Society joined the EUTH Inter- Varsity Debate Championship at Khon Kaen, Thailand. 3 teams were sent to battle it out with at least 50 high school and university debating teams all over Thailand. One of the 3 teams made it to the top 16. This team is composed of Surasit Prakunhungsit, Chavit Thawanapong, Teekay Klongtruangjok. The coach, Mr. Rom Kenneth B. Sales, was also awarded as one of the top 10 Best Adjudicators.
